YouNoodle is located in the South Park neighborhood of San Francisco, CA, and is backed by some of the most prominent investors and advisors in the world, including Peter Thiel, The Founders Fund, Max Levchin and several other angel investors.
We're a small, dedicated and international team of athletes, academics, inventors and entrepreneurs. We've been together since October 2007 and our products have already been featured in the New York Times and hundreds of other print media and blogs. Data Engineer
Your Attitude:
- Data geek. Be excited about opportunities to discover, collect, and structure some of the world's most important information.
- Detail oriented. You are pedantic about details and rigorous in your pursuit of perfection with a clear eye for process.
- Technical whiz. You understand the different ways data can be stored, accessed, and analyzed. And you have the scripting skills to use it for creative and innovative products.
- Experience. You have experience working with large datasets and text mining.
- Naturally curious. You want to know everything there is to know about new and innovative companies.
You Will Be:
- Confident in designing, building, managing, and owning a growing and complex database. Your past experience should reflect success with something similar.
- Taking large heterogeneous datasets to deliver clean, synthesized streams of data into the world's largest database of early stage private companies.
- Extracting insights from datasets using statistical / machine learning tools such as R, Weka, or using parallel transformation and processing techniques such as Map-Reduce.
- Combining multiple sources of data from APIs, RSS feeds, and human input into a single, structured data store while dealing with issues of duplication, cross-referencing, relational structure, and non-relational/denormalized storage.
- Developing processes to monitor and ensure data integrity.
- Capturing data from human analysts and implementing QA processes.
- Working with cross-functional teams, analysts, mathematicians, and engineers on projects including text mining, structuring data, and extracting entities.
- Excited to find creative new ways to gain insights and information from a range of sources.
Technologies You Know and Love:
- REST, XML-RPC, SOAP APIs.
- Dynamic languages, such as PHP, Ruby, Python, R.
- MySQL/PostgreSQL, document-based stores such as MongoDB or CouchDB, and key-value stores (Memcached, Redis); their distinct advantages, disadvantages, and trade-offs.
- Column-oriented stores (HBase, Cassandra), graph-oriented stores.
Science and Technology Writer
YouNoodle is a 20-person technology startup building algorithms to track the world of emerging technology and gather intelligence on private companies. We have raised venture capital from Peter Thiel and the Founder's Fund. Our offices are located in San Francisco.
We are seeking three writers with a background in science and an interest in tech.
Your Attitude:
- A Scientist or scientifically minded person who can write incredibly well, who is more interested in how science gets applied to innovation leading to fast-growth companies, than pure science.
- You have demonstrated an obsessive tendency and tenacity to know everything there is to know about a specific subject area. This could be innovation, science, music, sports etc
- You consider yourself bright, well spoken, articulate and highly interesting to meet.
- You are one of the most ambitious in your peer group.
- You have a talent for understanding and absorbing large amounts of complex material in a very short time and distilling down what’s important quickly.
- Rigorous and detail oriented to the point of occasionally being annoying.
- Won’t settle for mediocre, have high personal standards.
- Easy going and open minded, positive and upbeat.
- Speak more than one language (bonus).
You Will:
- Write incredibly articulately on important innovation trends and the companies behind them.
- Work with and advise the largest public companies, governments, and investors to influence important transactions such as acquisitions, policy and benchmarking.
- Become a writing machine, synthesizing complex ideas across a range of innovation areas from mobile platforms and iPhone applications to electric vehicles and biofuels.
- Be quoted in the press and attend important industry conferences.
Junior Analyst
YouNoodle is looking for a Junior Analyst to help with the data flow in our company. We are a technology intelligence agency, relatively still in stealth mode, but will be very open with the right candidates so they have all the information they need to make a decision about their careers. As a team, there is a lot of passion for our business and our mission.
You Will Be:
- Gathering and creating content to inform decisions and strategies for some of the worlds top technology companies and VC firms.
- Exhaustive in researching and understanding emerging technology sectors. From electric vehicles to location based social networks you will learn about it all.
- A key part of a larger analyst team, often collaborating on projects working together to meet deadlines.
- Tracking and researching venture capital deals across the globe using proprietary tools and custom streams of information to make it happen.
- Writing about exciting technology companies.
- Working with senior analysts to implement and refine data collection workflows.
- Rigorous regarding quality assurance in your testing of data collection

Office Manager
YouNoodle is seeking an exceptionally organized, multitasking Administrator to take a lead in establishing office procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail and report directly to the C.E.O.
Your Attitude and Experience:
- It isn't your first day. You have 2+ years in an office management role, and know how to setup effective processes that last. You have worked supporting an office of more than 20 people.
- You won't settle for mediocre and have high personal standards.
- You have an undergraduate degree and constantly seek out self-improvement opportunities.
- You are rigorous and detail-oriented to the point of occasionally being annoying.
- You are always on the lookout for the next great thing in travel (hotels, flights, restaurants). You take pride in preparing a great itinerary, always keeping budget as a priority.
- You are easy-going, open minded, positive and motivated. You are calm under pressure and can think quickly to solve situations as they arise.
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Given the international nature of our work, it's a bonus if you speak more than one language.
You Will:
- Ensure smooth operation of our new office. This may include responsibilities such as researching and negotiating with outside vendors and managing the inventory of office supplies, food and beverages.
- Be flexible. Up to 50% of your day will be spent working with the C.E.O. on a variety of administrative tasks, and special projects.
- Keep things orderly. You will be in charge of maintaining and straightening up the front desk, and common employee spaces.
- Be the 'Director of First Impressions'. This will include general reception duties, including answering phones, screening telephone calls and greeting guests.
- Plan and prepare for client and internal meetings as needed.
- HR Support: You will coordinate with the Recruiter and I.T. Administrator to set up computers and business cards for new hires.
- Assist with recruiting, greeting candidates as they come into the office.
- Coordinate meetings, schedules, expense reports and travel arrangements for the C.E.O., and occasionally others on the management team.
- Maintain the company's filing system.
- Be a planner: You will plan fun company offsite events.
