Research Analyst

YouNoodle is looking for a senior research analyst to be responsible for the planning and execution of all the company's major research projects. Projects will vary in length and will be a combination of work for media partners and commissioned client projects. You'll be researching different innovation spaces, synthesizing your findings, identifying trends and creating written reports often with opinions on your findings.

You are:

  • From a technical/scientific background and looking to start your own company or get into venture capital eventually
  • Excited by emerging businesses and innovation going on in sectors like Cleantech, Alternative Energy, Social Gaming, Robotics etc
  • Extremely good at identifying trends from disparate data sources and analyzing key success factors behind those companies
  • Obsessed with knowing everything about innovation & startups

Responsibilities:

  • Research innovation spaces you may or may not already have previous knowledge of, to an "expert" level.
  • Organize and analyze rich data on early-stage companies that no other company has had access to before.
  • Synthesize "key trends" and be able to present these in a cohesive and structured format.
  • Contribution to media pieces highlighting industries and YouNoodle findings.
  • Work closely with the management team to report findings as well as analyze overall metrics to contribute to all other aspects of the business.

Required skills:

  • The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, self -motivated, exhibit exhaustiveness within research projects, and not cut corners.
  • Strong knowledge of industry and obsession with the startup space (or at minimum very strong desire to become such.)
  • Strong excel skills preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and to quickly learn about any business in unfamiliar areas.
  • Interest and preferably experience in the formation and understanding of early-stage companies.
  • BS/ BA/ MBA + work experience (1-4 years)
  • Ideally from a consulting, VC, MBA, technical or entrepreneurship background.

Senior Engineer

YouNoodle is looking for a senior engineer with strong technical expertise to join our startup team early and be responsible for the technical framework and engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the engineering team to plan, execute and deliver on time all projects that touch the code base.
  • Critical involvement in all aspects of development: code base, architecture decisions, page styling, business logic, back-end servers.
  • Play a critical role in growing the engineering team (currently at 3).
  • Improve architecture / framework / coding practices when appropriate.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years experience in PHP and at least one other typical web programming language (Python, Ruby, Perl etc.)
  • Experience directly managing an engineering team to plan, execute and deliver on regular projects and pushes.
  • Demonstrated ability to write code for high-traffic applications, knowledge of scalability and runtime complexity issues.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented abstraction design and implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to assist other team members in problem solving.
  • Prior leadership experience or executive position at a startup a big plus.

Front End Web Designer And Developer

YouNoodle is looking for a designer with strong technical expertise to join our startup team early and be responsible for the front-end execution of all our features.

Responsibilities:

  • Design interface specifications with a focus on technical feasibility.
  • Build front-end enhancements, new features, and entirely new products.
  • Debug and maintain rendering in a variety of cross-domain and cross-browser environments.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in building and maintaining web pages using HTML, CSS and object-oriented JavaScript.
  • 1+ years experience in at least one typical web programming language (PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl etc.)
  • Experience with HTML templating systems (Smarty, CakePHP, Cheetah, Django etc.)
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks/toolkits, including AJAX networking (jQuery, MochiKit, YUI, Dojo, etc).
  • Comfortable with DOM manipulation, awareness of browser-specific issues.
  • Working knowledge of source control software (Subversion, CVS etc.)
  • Experience in Flash/Actionscript development is a plus.
