Veerappan is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Since the age of fourteen, he has founded four societies in diverse areas like web development, handicrafts and sports. In late 2007, he was the team leader of a social enterprise project that won the Mondialogo Engineering Award 06/07 organised by UNESCO & Daimler for the development of solar fruit dryer systems for farmers stricken by poverty in the Indian state of Maharashtra. His team was selected from among 809 teams from 89 countries and awarded 20,000 Euros in prize money for the implementation of their project in Bogalwadi, Maharashtra. The team was featured extensively in local and international media and even won a mention in the Budget 2008 speech. An active sportsman, he was also part of the NUS Varsity Floorball team & is the Convenor of the Temasek Alumni Hockey team. In the years to come, Veerappan hopes to gain a steady, growing income via his entrepreneurial pursuits so that he can positively impact the lives of the less fortunate.
