Description: Independent consultant specializing in Rich Internet Application (RIA) development. Tools include OpenLaszlo (generating Flash and AJAX/DHTML runtimes), Apache/Tomcat, Java, and MySQL. Projects have included a Jabber-based IM chat client, a multi-protocol IM chat client, a video editing client, a layout designer for customizing photographs, a comedy workshop training center, and several e-commerce widgets.

Description: Using Agile methodologies, defined enterprise web services across multiple web properties using service-oriented architecture (SOA) patterns with .NET/C# and SOAP::Lite/Perl web services consumed by ASP.NET/C# and Perl clients. Prototyped an ASP.NET/C# membership service with a custom provider model implementation that connected to existing authorization services.

Position: Vice President, Software Development & Operations
Time period: November 2003 - November 2005
Description: As the senior executive responsible for all aspects of ActaView’s technology, managed the software development of the core product, multiple concurrent client implementations using the core product, the Application Service Provider infrastructure, and office infrastructure.ActaView’s core product is a Business Intelligence / Performance Management platform for developing business key indicators. A key product component is a graphical dashboard with detail data drill-down for business managers. The core web-based product is developed with Java/JSP running on Tomcat with SQL Server and Oracle databases, with C# and .NET used for system monitoring. As the development manager, supervised the development team in creating release definitions with structured requirements and design documentation, coding of the release, and QA testing. Duties included hands-on development in all product areas.

While leading client implementations, was responsible for successfully delivering 6 full-lifecycle client projects, with up to 3 simultaneous projects. Introduced structured methodologies into the fulfillment process. As client services manager, supervised the implementation team in the analysis, construction, and delivery of client solutions using the core product’s ETL architecture. Delivered client solutions included Revenue Cycle Management for hospitals, Financial analysis for a regional lumber distributor, and Labor management for a provider of time and attendance systems.

Architected and constructed ActaView’s Application Service Provider web-based presence. Defined all aspects of the ASP operations, including security, monitoring, and disaster recovery planning. Utilized ActaView’s own core product and C#/.NET for monitoring of the ASP with wireless messaging for failure notifications, e-mail alerts for customer billing triggers, and proactive customer notifications of data feed issues.

Description: Provided .NET architecture technical know-how for the BellSouth Contact Center Framework project. Designed and implemented the Security layer leveraging .NET crypto algorithms, Active Directory integration with impersonation techniques, and SSL.

Description: Conceived, developed, and marketed an online auction Buyer’s tool built with C# and .NET. The tool scanned online auctions in search of auctions with prices below a dynamically computed fair market value. Created an e-commerce website for sales and conducted various online marketing campaigns to drive sales.

Time period: August 2001 - January 2003
Description: Directed full-lifecycle development and delivery of a HIPAA-compliant PDA-based charge capture system for physicians. The software allowed physicians to enter patient billing charges into PDAs at the point of service and transmit the charges to backend billing systems for review, approval, and submission.

Conducted user interviews with physicians and billing clerks to capture user requirements. Developed and maintained detailed UML-based functional requirements specifications with use cases for three product versions.

Defined the overall product architecture and selected software tools.
Created low-level software designs, RDBMS designs, and User Interface designs. Worked with the lead GUI developer and customers on iterative User Interface designs, prototypes, and implementation.

Reviewed all project deliverables, including designs, code, test plans, and user manuals. Monitored all project deliverables against the functional requirements documentation and tracked all defects/variances to conclusion. Communicated project status to the development team, CEO, and investors.

Performed product installation and user training. Provided first-level customer support, via phone and on-site visits, to physicians and billing clerks.

Supervised 11 employees and managed relationships with 3 software vendors.

Description: Invented a SOAP-based J2EE N-tier middleware platform for extending enterprise applications to wireless hand-held PDA devices. Provided a standardized solution for developing mobile applications.

Utilized the developed technology for a proof-of-concept project for Vista IT in Dunwoody. Extended a Remedy order management system to wireless Blackberry PDAs, allowing work tickets to be received by field technicians.

Developed a business plan and company website. Attracted a senior-level technologist and marketed the business to several Atlanta investors.

Time period: July 2000 - December 2000
Description: Developed and maintained detailed UML-based functional requirements specifications with use cases for two versions of the Veriprise Wireless Platform, an N-tier middleware platform that extended enterprise applications to wireless hand-held PDA devices.

Documented and defined platform requirements, utilizing input from the internal Marketing and Customer Service organizations. Created interdepartmental communication forums for members of the Customer Service and Platform teams to improve information flow.

Performed scheduling and metrics gathering for product releases using MS Project. Led functional review meetings, assigned tasks, and tracked tasks to completion. Coordinated product schedules with internal departments.

Managed the 30-member development team. Formulated development best practices, including C++/Java coding standards, design templates, code reviews, configuration management, and release cycle management. Led technical problem investigations to resolution and improved unit test efforts.

Description: Led the full-lifecycle development and production deployment of a high-volume N-tier ASP middleware platform supporting a HIPAA-compliant Internet orders and results system for medical labs. Developed C++ STL CORBA-based middleware to replace inherited client-server technology.

Managed the full SDLC of the highly scalable, highly available CORBA middleware built on Windows NT and ported to AIX & Solaris. The distributed N-tier middleware platform consisted of twenty individual component services, including a dedicated Security Service. Interfaced to multiple Lab customers through an HL7 Cloverleaf interface engine.

Supervised 7 engineers and provided technical management for offshore development in India. Improved development processes and procedures to obtain high-quality, reproducible deliverables.
