Employer:
Acorn Energy
Position:
Entrepreneur in Residence
Time period:
February 2008 - October 2008
Description:
Acorn is a publicly traded holding company that makes early stage venture investments in energy technology companies (non-sexy cleantech investing). The work I do includes: vetting new investment opportunities, working on strategy and marketing with our portfolio companies, industry research, writing, and keeping our CEO tuned in to the world outside Wall St.
Employer:
LanguageCalls
Position:
Project Manager
Time period:
March 2006 - November 2007
Description:
Joined when LC was tiny. Did everything the founders asked me to, from managing IT development priorities to creating a proto customer service department, to, eventually, taking over the education department and pretending that I knew heaps more about one on one education than I actually do.
Employer:
PlaNet Finance China
Position:
Project Development Consultant
Time period:
October 2005 - November 2007
Description:
PF China provides microfinance capacity building services to grassroots nonprofits in poor, rural China. I joined as a translator/interpreter, moved into fundraising, and ended up managing the project on which I'd worked the most. That project was in support of the Ningxia Center for the Environment and Poverty Alleviation, a hugely inspiring group providing integrated community development services to intensely resource poor (no water, no trees, no grass, mostly just scrubby desert weeds) villages in north central China. I went to work for LanguageCalls after 8 months full time at PF China but continued to contribute as a volunteer until I left Beijing in late 2007.
