  • 1. Startup founders - new kids on the block (TODAY May 8th, 6pm)

Come hear TODAY from under radar founders making big waves in the new Web landscape, including Paul Buchheit from Friendfeed and Kirill Makharinsky from YouNoodle.

The landscape of the Web has changed radically in recent years, with start-ups sprouting daily and influence shifting from VCs to entrepreneurs. The cost of launching a business has plummeted, driven down by the advances in the "open source" software movement, outsourcing and the power of Web-based marketing.

They are excited about the future of technology and building companies. This lively panel of hot, up and coming entrepreneurs and founders will share their stories and insights as well as answer your questions about building a successful company. The panel will be moderated by Jeff Clavier, Managing Partner of SoftTech VC.

  • 3. Donate Now to Help the Victims of Cyclone Nargis

The Stanford d.school class, Design for Extreme Affordability, is working with International Development Enterprises to bring relief goods to the victims of the recent hurricane in Myanmar, which has already claimed 22,000 lives. IDE is currently the only foreign aid organization authorized by the Burmese government to operate int he hardest hit parts of the country. The following is part of an email message the class received from Jim Taylor, the IDE country director:

"The current situation in Yangon is quite grim. We have no electricity, water, or phones... the fuel supplies are running short and food may become scarce soon. There are many people who are in desperate conditions." May 06, 2008 7:47 AM

Jim is asking for our help to fundraise so that IDE can reach out and help more people. A donation of $100 would directly impact, if not save many lives. The faster they get this support, the more impact it will have at this critical time. Thank you for your generosity and concern!
