ABOUT US
Entrepreneurship Cell [E-Cell], Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur aims at fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship among college students in India and nurturing young people with bright ideas. E-Cell boasts to be one of the most active organizations in India - with incubation of more than 15 start-ups from IIT Kharagpur itself within its three years of inception.
IIT Kharagpur continues to be India’s cradle for technology, innovation and thus Venture Incubation due to new venture support services (Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (STEP), Global Ventures Lab in association with UC Berkeley and University of Jyvaskyla, International Business (Wales) .
Entrepreneurship Cell is headed by Prof. Partha Pratim Chakraborty (Dean, SRIC) and Prof. Dhrubes Biswas (Prof-In-Charge, Entrepreneurship &Incubation Programs, SRIC).

Our annual flagship event, the Entrepreneurship Summit [E-Summit] {Jan 10th,11th 2010}, is one of the biggest entrepreneurial platforms in India, for academicians, new-age entrepreneurs, eminent business personalities, venture capitalists and the students to gather at one place and share their entrepreneurial endeavors and experiences, and to pledge to take entrepreneurship in India to greater scales. It witnesses active participation from places strewn far and wide across the nation. It hosts varieties of guest lectures by distinguished speakers, panel discussions, focused workshops and final rounds of all our popular competitions {B-plan competition, case study competition, social entrepreneurship challenge, product design competition}.

To promote college start-ups, E-cell was responsible for yet another initiative last year called the Deferred Placement Program (DPP) which empowers any student of the campus to opt out of placements and try their hands at entrepreneurship, failing which they can return and sit for on-campus placements after 2 years.

Cleantech Challenge is a clean technology oriented B-plan competition organized by Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the first of its kind in India.
Over the past few years, there has been an increasing awareness of the need and importance of finding ways to reduce mankind's negative ecological impact. Huge investments are being made in this industry and that means plenty of start-up opportunities. Keeping this in mind, E-Cell IIT Kharagpur has taken the initiative of conducting a Clean tech business plan competition to help accelerate the process of turning a budding idea into a fully-fledged functioning company.
