  • 1. Tonight: The Power of an Advisory Board

The Power of an Advisory Board
    Tuesday 9th February, 18:30-20:00
Lecture Theatre 1, Business School, 7 Bristo Square

Bill Joos, Principal of "Go To Market Consulting" in the Silicon Valley, is back for his annual E-Club visit and he's always popular. Bill feels that a powerful Board of Advisors is the entrepreneur’s most underutilized tool. He’ll explore that topic in depth during his talk, and allow time for your burning questions afterward.

[This event is part of the Silicon Valley Speaker Series, sponsored by good folks at Informatics Ventures].

  • 2. Networking Tool: Mixing it up with Bloop

New to E-Club? Ever head for the wine unsure who to talk with? Want to invite people into your conversations?

Bloop is a mobile app for networking events. It works on any internet enabled phone by going to www.getbloop.com, and it also works on your computer. Bloop makes it easier to find out who the people around you are and what they're interested in. You can post messages (called bubbles) about what you would like to talk about or what you're looking for at the event and see what others are interested in talking about.

Get ready to try Bloop tonight, and let's have fun with it.

  • 3. E-Club's Pitching Competition: 13 More Days to Apply

Looking for members with ideas to pitch. To apply, email 5-7 sentences outlining your business idea to entrepreneurship@ed.ac.uk by 21st February.

  • 5. Pitching Winner Update: Zoomatelo Excitement

Last semester Jonathan Millin won the E-Club Pitching Competition with carpooling network Zoomatelo - now where is he?

Zoomatelo.com (a social network facilitating carpooling) has been fairly quiet since winning the Abbey Bank Pitching competition late last year, but they have not been dormant! Zoomatelo just officially launched through the largest company in Africa, and over the course of February will be getting exposure to 15,000 employees through a £2000 internal marketing campaign at Standard Bank's headquarters in South Africa. If this is successful, they'll be rolling out to Standard Bank's 35,000 other employees across 30 African countries!

Once things have settled down in South Africa, they plan to enter the UK market with their innovative product. They attribute part of their success to the E-Club, Launch.ed and Informatics Ventures, which goes to show that with the University of Edinburgh's facilities you too could turn your prospects into products!
